Jamyang Celebrates 25 years at the Courthouse!
November 30 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
Join the trustees and special guests for a joyful celebration of the 25th anniversary of Jamyang’s historic purchase of The Old Courthouse.
The very history of the building symbolises what this community stands for: a place of conflict being transformed into a center for compassion, wisdom and peace.
In November 1995 The Old Courthouse was a very different place: deserted, overgrown and boarded up, with a badly leaking roof. There was razor wire on the roof, bulletproof glass in the shrine room and IRA graffiti in the cells.
Come along to hear the story of how a high-security court was transformed into a place of study and contemplation glowing with sacred works of art. Geshe Namdak has kindly agreed to discuss the role of bricks and mortar in the digital age, some of the artists who created holy objects at Jamyang will participate in a Q&A, and older students will describe the exciting moment when the building was finally purchased at auction.
